What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda means ‘knowledge of life’ and is an ancient Indian belief system incorporating a philosophy and way of being, diet and nutrition, medicine, yoga and massage. It provides a Holistic approach to health involving the mind, body and our connection to the environment.
How does Ayurvedic massage differ from other massage?
Ayurvedic massage uses warm oils gently worked into the face and body and selected according to our individual personality and physiological type or Dosha. The oils are blended specifically to nurture and heal one of three Doshas. The three Dosha types are Vata; governed by air and ether, Pitta, governed by fire and water and Kapha, governed by earth.
The treatment includes a consultation to establish your Dosha and to determine the oils to be used. Individuals may be a combination of two Dosha types and occasionally of all three. We suffer from ill-health or unhappiness when our Dosha is out of balance and the Ayurvedic philosophy addresses these imbalances in our lives by treating the mind and body and restoring our natural state of balance.
